Lee Roy Selmon's story combines the benefits of football scholarship and volunteerism in the community. The first family is his youngest of the nine children of Lucious Selmon and Jessie. They grew up on a farm at Eufala, Oklahoma. He was also one of three siblings that represented Oklahoma on the field of football. The three brothers were all All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey & Lee Roy started for one season in 1973. Lee Roy has won both the Outland Award as well as the Lombardi Award for being the nation's best lineman. The three years he was the team's starter, Oklahoma went 32- 1-1 and also won two championships at the national level. He received a third scholarship in 1975 and named as an National Football Foundation Student-Athlete. Selmon received his bachelor's master's degree in educational studies. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer time per week throughout his time in college. In Tampa where he played, he joined the Buccaneers for nine seasons before becoming an all-pro. Additionally, he started his career in the field of business. The first job he had was an Account Relations Manager at First Florida Bank, Tampa. He was a member on the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It was the Junior Chamber of Commerce honored him in 1982 as being one of the top 10 young men in the US. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch higher and weighing in at 256 pounds in college as an athlete, was captain of his team during the season of 1975. In 1993 he joined at the University of South Florida as an associate director of athletics. He was named to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1993 by the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994, as well as the Pro Football Hall of Fame of 1995. The Selmons' parents Lucious and Mary Selmon Jr. have been awarded the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation. Henry Bellmon the Governor of Oklahoma made the presentation.
